In general google contacts work well
There are currently 2 different screens for contacts
- Google Suite Users are still using the older Contacts interface. (image right)
- Gmail account holders have been switched over to a newer interface which is supposed to have more graphics appeal. I don't care for it, and I think from a business perspective it is a step backwards. My suspicion is that is why it has not been implemented in GSuite Accounts.
General info and Tips
- The search function is exceptional. It will search all fields and comments
- Put keywords for contacts in the comments field and you can then search for them.
- You can add custom fields, but unfortunately you can't add them for all contacts, you have to add them per contact, which prevents it from being a powerful and customize-able contact manager (likely by design)
- The "File By" system is automated. So it will file by name or company name or other... For those wanting clear control over this it's a little confusing but not hard to figure out. You will likely search by search instead of Rolodex flipping anyway, making it less relevant.
- Grouping contacts works okay. There seems to be a confusing delay that transpires when creating new groups and wanting to immediately send out an email to a newly created group. Always been like that.
- I don't use Circles nor Google+
- The export function is simple for getting into excel. The field names are a little archaic.
- The import function works well for moving contacts from one account to another
- I do NOT try to add contacts on my phone. I just don't. It's not that difficult, I just try not to enter much of anything from my phone as i find it cumbersome.
