T103.6a - Gmail Settings
To get to gmail, type mail.google.com into your browser.
Gmail offers literally dozens if not hundreds of custom settings. These settings below are the settings I use which are generally different that the gmail default settings. Without some of these, like the Conversation View OFF, I'd never use gmail, so they are incredibly important to me.
View each Settings Tab (Gear > Settings) to get a full picture of all customize-able options. The tabs once you get to Gear > Settings are not obvious. They are at the top going left to right, but there is not color or shape decoration for the tab. Just a link.

Compose Message --- Full window

- Gear > Settings > General > Conversation View -- conversation view OFF
- Gear > Settings > General > Send and Archive -- SHOW send and archive button
- Gear > Settings > General > Create contacts for autocomplete - {on is my preference}
- Gear > Settings > General > Signature block (optional)
- Gear > Settings > Labels > System Labels > Starred, Important, Chats >> HIDE
- Gear > Settings > Labels > System Labels > Sent Mail, Drafts, All Mail >> SHOW (all mail is not shown by default)
- Gear > Settings > Labels > System Labels > Spam, Trash >> HIDE
- Gear > Settings > Labels > Categories // Circles >> HIDE to all...
- Gear > Settings > Labels > Labels -- Create a zzOther label and put all personal labels under that label.
- Gear > Settings > Inbox > InboxType >> default
- Gear > Settings > Inbox >Categories >> Primary, Social and Promotions
- Gear > Settings > Inbox > Importance Markers >> NO MARKERS (thus the next item is irrelevant, but select don't use if you want to put things in parallel)
- Gear > Settings > Inbox > Filtered Mail >> Do not override filters ( but doesn't matter b/c not using the importance thingy..)
- Gear > Settings > Labs > Auto-advance (if desired, I don't use)
- Gear > Settings > Labs > Canned Responses (if desired)
- Gear > Settings > Labs > Preview Pane (if desired)
- Gear > Settings > Labs > Unread Message Icon (if desired)
Compose Message --- Full window
- When you compose a message, if the popup opens in the bottom right corner and you want it to open in the middle of your screen, in the bottom right corner of the compose window, click the down arrow, and then select "default to full screen" and this will hold for all future compose commands.

When you click the Gear Icon, you will see a menu.

- These refer to the spacing on the options below the compose button.
- Shortcut to manage the tabs in the inbox. Can also be done in Settings
- The holy grail for configuration settings.
- Short cut to managing a google apps account (which I have...)
- Change colors (and don't do this if you want my help as it's color overload for me)

Gear > Settings will get you to the "General" Tab for Settings. It's not overly apparent you are on a tab, thus I've highlighted the row of tabs in the image at right.
