Screen Capture - Chrome - Awesome Screenshot
Awesome Screenshot is one of the higher ranked apps. IT seems they ran into some major problems in the 2015-16 time frame as chrome changed up what apps and extensions were and were not allowed to do with file systems.

Quirks
- You can not grab sections of screen outside of the active window in one step. You can either grab sections of the screen inside the window you are in or you have to capture an entire screen and then crop to what you want.
- It does not appear you could make captures across screens. you would need to make partial snags of two screens, paste them somewhere where you could orient and then grab those.
- Ctrol and mouse scroll will zoom in and out on the editor screen. That also zooms the text size on their menu in and out.
- "Capture entire page" may foobar a little as it scrolls and snaps and if you have a stick header, it will include the header in each snap.
- The options> auto-saving to a directory is deprecated. No clue what's up with that...

Basic Capture and Retrieval of Existing Images
The icon is a black multicolored ball/lense. If it is not visible. clikc on the three dots menu and look in the first row.
The two items I use most are identified:
Capture Selected Area allows for dragging a box around your target info.
Select a local image is in fact uploading an image from your computer for additional markup or editing.
Capture Desktop gives options of each monitor individually or each open window
Options:
PNG or JPG

If you "Capture Selected Area" the screen will turn grey. Use the mouse to highlight the area you want to capture..
The Editor
Upon selecting "capture" the image will show up in the editor.
After placing an annotation, you have to be in the right spot to grab it and move it.. just play with it.
The Delete button does not work. There is a small delete icon next to the +/-
There is a Clear button that will clear all that you add (it is the two arcs making a circle and there is an undo button.
Pros:
Cons:
Click DONE to get to the save screen

Pros:
- for the most basic stuff, this is okay
Cons:
- Selecting an object after it is drawn is funky. It seems the cross comes up to grab and move at the bottom center of the object.
- The squares and such you can modify, but takes a bit to get used to grabbing the anchors.
- There is no ability to fill a circle or square.

This is a little funky...
Box 1 - link to re-edit,
Box 2 - this is related to their online storage account. It is bizarre. it has "projects" and I cant figure out how to download an image put there, but they do give URLs for images, so it's for image hosting (i guess).
Box 3 - This tiny box is where you can save to Google Drive. It will simply save in the root of google drive. No option to specify folder.
Box 4 - Enables you to save to any folder on your computer (including your google drive synch folder). it will also copy the image to the clipboard and send it to print. To change the default download folder, you change that in chrome settings... Chrome>Three dots>Settings>advanced.

Summary
This is the best alternative to snag it although still rudimentary with some glitchy stuff.
Easiest work flow is grab image, edit and save to computer, much like snagit.
